Dr. Cohen received his MD from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2000, and also completed a Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology in 1999. He then completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2005 and a fellowship in Laryngology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2006. He performs clinical care and research focused on patients with voice, airway, and swallowing problems. Dr. Cohen's research interests include the epidemiology and public health impact of voice, airway, and swallowing problems, practice patterns in the management of voice and swallowing problems, and evidence-based treatment of voice and swallowing problems.

Dr. Cohen has developed an interest in and been involved with the Israeli healthcare system. He has given academic presentations at Israeli medical centers, presented at the annual meetings of the Israeli Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, and hosted Israeli otolaryngology residents. Dr. Cohen first became involved with APF with the February 2024 Medical Solidarity Mission to Israel, which was one of the most meaningful experiences with which he has been involved. Dr. Cohen has been struck by the humanism, evidenced by the compassionate care for all, inherent in the Israeli healthcare system and believes that supporting and promoting the Israeli healthcare system and its learners is more important than ever.
