Partnering with Israeli experts on an Emergency Disaster Preparedness annual course in Israel, taught to civilian and military health care professionals from around the world.
Today the world faces serious new challenges in the fight against terrorism. As the State of Israel has matured in this arena, its national mobilization plans, experience and skills have become the gold standard, with potential applicability to scenarios in North America.
Created in conjunction with Israel’s Ministry of Health and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Medical Corps, this one-of-a-kind program offers physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals firsthand training from some of the world’s foremost experts
The American Healthcare Professionals and Friends for Medicine in Israel (APF), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization of physicians and healthcare professionals, is committed to advancing the state of medical education, research, and care in Israel by assisting in the training of young Israeli physicians and healthcare professionals, and in fostering ties between the North American and Israel’s healthcare communities.
The course is open to Jews and non-Jews alike. Past participants have included those in the fields of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Internal medicine, Podiatry, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing, Emergency Medical Technology and Public Health.
The course is all in English; it provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the components of disaster preparedness, as well as of the responses of both pre-hospital and hospital systems and of community resilience. Graduates of the course gain competencies in disaster/emergency preparedness and response so that following this, many continue to build their capacities and become involved in their institutions/fields as part of Emergency Management committees/teams.
I saw how thoroughly the Israeli medical system has considered the bioterrorist threat, and the huge amount of time crafting appropriate response systems. It was a wonderful opportunity, as well, to create links with Israeli physicians…”
This was truly an amazing course - transformative, enlightening and enjoyable. I doff my hat to all who set this up. Thank You!”
This was the most amazing, fun, and fascinating CME conference I have ever participated in! There was hands-on training, simulations, and various activities that were unlike anything I have ever experienced in my medical training. Most incredible was the warmth, friendliness, and hospitality of the Israeli people. We all felt so welcome in Israel. Also impressive is the advanced technology use in training of medical personnel in Israel. Generally a very impressive and fun course! I can highly recommend this program/course to any physician or allied health professional.”
I am responsible for clinical Emergency Department Disaster Prep for a major urban healthcare system. The APF course exceeded my expectations with regards to best practice and content offered, but also the caliber of lecturers, and experts with whom we had the privilege to interact. Highly recommended!”
Thank you for a great week! The presenters were enthusiastic and welcoming. I felt comfortable asking questions or asking for help in certain areas. All were very accommodating.”
The American Healthcare Professionals and Friends for Medicine in Israel (APF) is an organization of healthcare professionals dedicated to ensuring Israel’s emergency preparedness and enabling Israeli healthcare providers to train in cutting-edge medicine in the U.S. before taking leadership positions in Israeli medical institutions.
Since 1951 APF has sponsored more than 1,500 Fellows to help train Israeli physicians in specialty care. From cutting-edge surgical techniques to advanced diagnostic tools to the establishment of new community health clinics, APF is proud to play an integral and critical role in the healthcare of the people of Israel.
Because APF is not affiliated with any particular medical institution in Israel, we are able to provide assistance to a wide array of medical facilities and programs in Israel. APF has excellent relations with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Medical Corps of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
APF provides the opportunity for North American healthcare professionals to receive advanced training in disaster management. APF is proud to offer travel grants and awards to Israeli physicians and other healthcare professionals to facilitate their attendance at international meetings and conferences.
