Dr. Or Barkai is pursuing an advanced surgical breast oncology fellowship in Canada in order to gain expertise and leadership training that extend beyond what is currently available in Israel. North American breast oncology fellowships are recognized globally for their high-volume exposure to complex cases, integration of the latest surgical and oncologic innovations, and strong emphasis on multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.
Since joining Rambam’s Breast Unit in 2023, Dr. Barkai has demonstrated a deep commitment to treating the full spectrum of breast disease, from benign conditions to advanced malignancies. This fellowship will significantly expand her clinical capabilities by immersing her in leading-edge surgical techniques, evidence-based treatment protocols, and collaborative decision-making models that define international best practice.
A key component of the fellowship is leadership development. By chairing tumor boards, guiding multidisciplinary discussions, and teaching residents and fellows, Dr. Barkai will strengthen her clinical judgment, mentorship skills, and ability to lead complex care teams—skills that are critical for advancing breast cancer care at a national level.
Upon returning to Israel, Dr. Barkai will apply this training to elevate surgical breast oncology services, enhance multidisciplinary collaboration, and help train the next generation of physicians.
