Senior Physician, Pulmonologist, and Lecturer

Name: Lev Freidkin

Israeli Institution: Rabin Medical Center Medical Center

North American Institution: McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada

Fellowship Year: 2025-2026

Description:
Dr. Lev Freidkin is participating in an advanced Interventional Pulmonology fellowship in North America in order to acquire specialized clinical and research expertise that is not yet widely available in Israel. Interventional Pulmonology is a rapidly evolving subspecialty that plays a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of complex lung diseases, including lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, and acute, life-threatening respiratory conditions.
Leading North American centers set the global standard in this field, particularly in advanced bronchoscopy, minimally invasive diagnostic techniques, and multidisciplinary collaboration with thoracic surgery and oncology. Through this fellowship, Dr. Freidkin will gain hands-on experience in complex bronchoscopy procedures, exposure to thoracic surgical approaches, and training in innovative diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that differ significantly from those commonly practiced in Israel.
In addition to procedural training, the fellowship emphasizes comprehensive patient management models and treatment protocols that are evidence-based and outcomes-driven. These approaches—many of which are not yet standard in Israel—enable earlier diagnosis, more precise treatment, and reduced need for invasive surgery, directly improving patient outcomes.
The fellowship also provides a platform for meaningful research and international collaboration. By engaging in clinical and translational research alongside global leaders in Interventional Pulmonology, Dr. Freidkin will help generate new knowledge and build partnerships that can support future collaborative projects and innovation.
Upon returning to Israel, Dr. Freidkin will apply this advanced training to expand interventional pulmonology services, introduce new techniques and protocols, strengthen multidisciplinary care, and help position Israel’s healthcare system at the forefront of pulmonary medicine.
