Dr. Avihai Moscovici

Research Fellow focusing on colorectal and robotic-assisted surgery

Name: Avihai Moscovici

Israeli Institution: Shamir Medical Center

North American Institution: Lankenau Institute, Wynnewood, PA

Fellowship Year: 2025-2026

Description:
Dr. Avihai Moscovici has been deeply committed to colorectal surgery since the earliest stages of his residency, with a particular focus on colorectal oncology. Recognizing that excellence in this complex field requires exposure to high-volume centers and advanced surgical and research expertise, he made an early and deliberate decision to pursue subspecialty fellowship training at a major international referral center.
Dr. Moscovici has been accepted to train under Dr. John Marks at Lankenau Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Dr. Marks is a world-renowned leader in oncological colorectal surgery, known for pioneering advanced minimally invasive techniques and integrating surgical innovation with clinical research. Training in this U.S. center of excellence offers exposure to case complexity, surgical volume, and academic leadership that are not currently available within Israel.
A defining strength of this fellowship is that it introduces methods and perspectives that have not yet been adopted by the Israeli colorectal surgery community. There are no prior Israeli graduates of this program, making this opportunity particularly impactful. Dr. Moscovici will gain first-hand experience with innovative surgical approaches, decision-making frameworks, and research methodologies that can be directly translated into improved patient care at home.
This fellowship represents a significant personal and professional commitment, undertaken with a clear purpose: to return to Israel as an independent, academic oncological colorectal surgeon. Upon his return, Dr. Moscovici aims to raise the national standard of colorectal cancer care by introducing advanced techniques, contributing original research, and helping to shape the next generation of colorectal surgeons.
