Dear Friends & Supporters of Medicine in Israel,
I am proud and honored to be the first woman and the first nurse president of the APF. The APF, which was founded 70 years ago, enjoys the reputation of being the premier organization in North America promoting the advancement of medical care in Israel.
APF maintains and continually updates a registry of North American healthcare providers who are willing to serve in Israel in the event of war or natural disaster. Because Israeli medical professionals would be required to turn their attention to the battlefront, the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in North America need to be able to travel to Israel on a moment’s notice to care for people in hospitals.
This is an important mission, but it is costly.
That’s where you come in! We need you to join the registry or make a donation so that we can maintain the registry and continue to credential medical professionals who are willing to make the sacrifice.
APF also sponsors a robust Fellowship program by providing scholarships for Israeli physicians to come to academic medical centers in the U.S. and Canada to advance their clinical and research skills. Once trained, they bring their knowledge back to Israel, where it benefits the populations who need it most. We also sponsor Israeli nurses to come to North America for specialty training in underserved fields in Israel. Please consider sponsoring a Fellow or a nurse.
Another APF initiative is purchasing products requested by the Home Front Command, such as bomb shelters and Polaris all-terrain ambulances, used for emergency evacuations. Israelis live in constant fear of being attacked. Many children, particularly in Sderot (on the Gaza border), suffer from PTSD and other mental-health issues, which is something APF provides assistance for. This is not a “quality of life” issue; our financial aid often spells the difference between life and death!
Israeli communities desperately need our help, and we count you on your financial support.
Here’s another way to get involved. Several major American and Canadian cities have local chapters, where healthcare professionals are actively involved with APF, yet many cities are not represented. Would you consider getting your city involved? We can help you organize and set that up. APF also offers the Emergency & Disaster Preparedness Course in Israel every November. Consider taking the course if you haven’t already.
And APF does so much more! To support our efforts, won’t you join the APF at the highest possible level, sponsor a Fellow, join the registry or make a donation? Please contact us at APFMed.org to learn more.
It’s time for us to get to work and let the world know how we’re accomplishing and expanding our mission. With your help, we can continue to support and improve the health and well-being of all Israelis. Join us.
